CREATIVE BRIEF

Our friends at Progressive Surf Academy approached us with the task of redesigning their website to convey the excellence of their surf school and excite potential students to get in the water.

While looking through old surf magazines for inspiration we came across some vintage California surfing photos. They had a weathered, nostalgic look with faded whites and yellowed images. We agreed that the perfect solution payed homage to the roots of California surfing while incorporating modern design techniques.

BUILDING
THE LOOK

Vintage Photo Filter

After deciding on our look, we applied it to all of the imagery that would be used in the website. Our designer built a custom Lightroom filter and processed the images to give them that vintage surfing vibe.

The typography was critical to match the vintage imagery with a modern website, so we chose a flexible and bold typeface. Combining different weights gave us the contrast we were looking for between the headlines and body copy. Colors were chosen to mesh well with the vintage imagery and provide contrast between different design elements.
